Musical Instrument InsuranceQuestions and AnswersQ: Will my instrument be insured outside of the home? A: Yes, Music Shield insures your instrument anywhere in the UK. It also covers use out of the Country for a period of up to 45 days per visit - perfect for the school windband/orchestra trip abroad. Q: Won't my instrument be insured with my household contents insurance? A: Almost certainly not. Musical instruments come under valuables for the most part. Some household Policies allow instruments to be added at a substantial premium but still don't insure the instrument out of the house where most losses, thefts and damage occurs. Further, any claim on your MUSIC SHIELD Policy won't result in your home contents cover Premium increasing in the event of a claim. Q: Is music shield available to musicians of any age? A: Yes, amateur musicians of any age may use Music Shield. Q: Is there any Policy excess payable in the event of a claim? A: No, there is no Policy excess with Music Shield. Q: My instrument has been lost/stolen, what should I do? A: Report it to the Police immediately if possible, but within 7 days and obtain a crime number in the event of a theft. Advise Music Shield. Q: Is theft from an unnatended vehicle covered? A: Yes, but the instrument must be secured in a concealed location such as a locked boot or locked glove box. Q: Is general wear and tear, scratching or denting covered? A: No, general wear and tear, scratching or denting is not covered by Music Shield. Q: What if my instrument is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair and the make/model is no longer available? A: Music Shield will replace your instrument with an instrument of equal or greater value. Q: Who repairs my instrument in the event of damage? A: Music Shield employs professional technicians to undertake your repair, but if appropriate Music Shield may authorise a technician close to you to carry out the work. Music Shield can arrange collection of the instrument from you if required. Q: If my instrument needs a repair, how long does it take before my instrument is returned to me? A: This depends on the extent of the damage but you can expect return within 7 days in most cases. Q: Is Music Shield available to semi-professional or professional musicians? A: No, Music Shield is only available to amateur musicians. Q: Can I cancel my insurance at any time? A: Yes, simply contact us by letter or e mail to cancel your insurance and remember to cancel your standing order if this is your payment method. Q: I paid for an annual Policy but now want to cancel early, what happens to any Premiums 'not used' as such? A: Music Shield will reimburse you pro-rata for any 'unused' months to the nearest month. Q: When will I receive my Policy Document for the instrument? A: Your Policy Document will be sent immediately on acceptance of your Application.
